The ProposalFor my friends Charmaine and Cory. This was a lesson in special effects (blue screen, sound mixing, and 3D animation). Inspired by the
actual proposal that Cory delivered to Charmaine at Dewey Beach, Delaware, I decided to script a fictional re-enactment of it, using two actors in their place. This would also
give me the chance to test shooting over blue screen, keying in Avid, and adding in a 3D animation of an airplane flying by.
I wanted to keep things very simple for my first attempt at blue screen. I had a storyboard done to help keep the continuity for the beach background shots. We used the blue screen at AIM, and I took advantage of a trip to Dewey Beach with my TerpWushu group to get the beach shots. A few TerpWushu members were glad to stand in for me to get the matching camera angles.
I used Magic Bullet filters and a few other color correction techniques to get the surreal beach look. This, alone, must have taken 8 hours, but result was well worth the time.
I want to live on that beach! All the sound effects were added in post. The bi-plane was surprisingly easy to create in Blender3D. I did run into problems getting a good
blue screen export of it into Avid. My next blue screen lesson will be keyed in After Effects and will incorporate camera motion matching. Congrats you guys, hope you like the
